To the historic districts of Fener and Balat
- Breakfast.
- Today, a truly special side of Istanbul awaits us—cozy, colorful, and festive. We will explore areas that have preserved the atmosphere of the old city, discover the Asian side of Istanbul, sample favorite Turkish sweets, and conclude the day with a Christmas cruise along the Bosphorus.
We begin in the vibrant historical districts of Fener and Balat, located along the shores of the Golden Horn. This is Istanbul at its most picturesque—reminiscent of a postcard, with narrow streets, colorful houses, historic buildings, and cozy cafés adorned for the holidays. It is a delightful place for a winter stroll, where you can enjoy the festive lights and the charm of the old city.
We will view the famous Phanar Greek Orthodox College, visit the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George, wander among the vivid houses of Balat, and explore a remarkable heritage shaped by diverse cultures and religions. A particular highlight is the Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen—a unique cast-iron structure that looks like a fairy-tale castle transported to the banks of the Golden Horn.
Afterward, we will embark on a scenic journey across the Bosphorus Bridge, crossing from Europe into Asia to reach the other side of Istanbul. We will be welcomed by the majestic Çamlıca Mosque, which rises atop one of the city’s highest hills. Its grand domes and minarets are striking even from a distance, while the mosque grounds offer a magnificent panoramic view of the Bosphorus and two continents. In winter, when the city is bathed in a soft, gentle light, the view from here is truly enchanting.
Next, we continue our journey to the cozy neighborhood of Kuzguncuk—one of the most atmospheric spots on the Asian side of Istanbul. Here, you will find quiet streets, colorful wooden houses, quaint cafés, and shop windows decorated for the holidays. Kuzguncuk has preserved the remarkable atmosphere of old Istanbul, where mosques, churches, and synagogues coexist in peaceful harmony.
- Lunch. It’s time for a break to enjoy one of the city’s most delicious *döner* kebabs—an authentic Istanbul street food favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Afterward, we’ll make a sweet stop at the famous, historic confectionery, Cafer Erol. It is a true paradise for those with a sweet tooth: traditional Turkish delight (*lokum*), chocolates, candies, marmalade, and other Turkish treats—all beautifully presented and perfect as Christmas gifts.
And, of course, what would a winter stroll be without a cup of hot *salep*? Let’s enjoy a traditional Turkish winter drink—smooth, aromatic, and warming. Hot *salep*, sweets, and the cozy atmosphere of an old-fashioned confectionery will make for a wonderful Christmas break.
After an eventful day, we will return to the European side of Istanbul and embark on a private yacht cruise along the Bosphorus. This is where the most magical moment of the day awaits us. As the yacht glides across the dark waters of the strait, Istanbul at night will reveal itself—the shimmering lights of two continents, illuminated palaces and mosques, bridges reflected in the water, and an endless cityscape.
Christmas lights, music, the Bosphorus, and Istanbul all around—the perfect conclusion to our festive journey!
- Overnight stay at the hotel.
